A Brief History

Hi. I’m Sara Alvarez Kleinsmith. I started writing letters to my son Andy shortly after he was born, in an effort to not only record his childhood, but to also be able to authentically share my life experience with him in real time.

I believe that as parents, we owe it to ourselves to own our humanness and all things that come with it. Divorce, death, depression, these are real things that human adults experience.

Although not optimal, there is a wealth of wisdom and connection that can come from talking about these issues. That’s why I use Dear Andy to communicate with my son about what it means to be whole.

My hope is that he will one day read these letters for guidance and to learn more about his mother as a human. This blog is meant to inspire forgiveness, love, and growth.

As we come to love and accept ourselves, we are able to accept and love our parents and children more as we see them as they truly are.

I’m honored to feature some of the work of great writers and parents on this blog and my greatest hope is that their work, OUR work, resonates with others and allows each reader to feel seen, heard, and part of a whole.

Happy Reading,

Sara
